Customer sustainability journey simplified: Clariant puts product carbon footprint data at fingertips

Clariant has announced a significant milestone in its commitment to sustainability transparency and customer support. Since January 2025, the Product Carbon Footprints data (PCFs) for a large part of its Care Chemicals products are available for download on ClariHub, the company’s digital customer platform.

Customers can access PCFs directly by logging into their ClariHub accounts, the new development marking a major step forward in Clariant’s efforts to provide comprehensive product information and support to stakeholders in their carbon reduction initiatives.

“Making PCFs readily available on ClariHub demonstrates our dedication to transparency and our commitment to supporting our customers’ sustainability journeys,” said Christian Vang, President Care Chemicals & Americas at Clariant. “This initiative is a crucial part of our strategy to enable our customers to make informed decisions as they work towards their carbon reduction targets.”

The availability of PCFs on ClariHub will empower Clariant’s customers with valuable data to better understand the environmental impact of the products they purchase; make more informed decisions in their product selection process; accurately calculate and report their own carbon footprints; and develop and implement effective carbon reduction strategies.

With approximately 50% of PCFs already available, the business unit Care Chemicals will continue to expand the range of products with available PCFs in ClariHub with plans to have PCFs for most of the portfolio available by the end of 2025.

Clariant’s PCFs are compliant with ISO 14067:2018, a methodology validated by TÜV Rheinland. Comprehensive primary data from purchasing and operations are used for the PCF calculations, delivering robust carbon footprints to our customers.

Today’s development aligns with Clariant’s broader sustainability strategy and in particular its efforts to reduce its scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, which directly translate into lower PCFs of our products.

Clariant committed to reducing our scope 1, 2 and 3 Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by setting near-term company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science with the SBTi which were validated in 2021. To date, Clariant has achieved a 29% reduction in its scope 1 & 2 emissions from the 2019 baseline and scope 3.1 emissions (purchased goods and services) have decreased by 19% by end 2023. The company is currently overdelivering against its validated 2030 GHG emissions reduction targets, assuming a linear trend line. To show its commitment to decarbonization, Clariant is currently awaiting validation of its updated near-term GHG emission reduction targets through the SBTi. Clariant is committing to reduce scope 1 & 2 emissions 46.9% (previously 40%) and its scope 3 emissions 27.5% (previously 14%) by 2030 from a 2019 base year.
